Bill Gothard to launch marriage advice column
After the wild success of his courtship tutorial Seven Courtship Secrets for a Successful Marriage, Bill Gothard recently announced that he has agreed to write a weekly marriage column for a national newspaper chain.
"Thousands of young ATI couples are experiencing the blessing of God by loving the Lord Jesus Christ and honoring both sets of parents while pursuing their life partners," said Gothard. "We now want to give them the tools to build successful marriages. After all, these are two individuals who have never been kissed -- they need to be taught."
Gothard's syndicated column will feature advice about finances, sex, children, housekeeping, and other highly-contentious issues that newlyweds often face. "After 50 years of advising couples in how to resolve their conflicts, I have discovered in God's Word many steps to achieve a powerful marriage," he said.

Have you ever been to freejinger.yuku.com? It's a forum where posters dissect fundamentalist christianity. There are quite a few ex-ATI'ers there, since the forum started as a critique of the Duggars on TLC. It's very feminism, focused, though.
Your blog's been mentioned on there, so I'm glad you're still updating.

X-ati girl here, I absolutely love your blog, keep the posts coming!!!
wow...so is this what you do for a life...
HUGE fan, your posts have brought the laughter I needed to start the recovery process. Keep up the good work!
Odd..since he has never been married he knows everything about this kind of stuff..Bill that is.
Oooooh! He's such an expert on the topic given his personal experience. Next thing you know he'll be dispensing parenting advice... oh wait. What else can he talk on to brainwash, scratch that, provide wise counsel on given his personal experience?
(sarcasm:)The best way to dispense wise council is to not be impeded by experience.

Yeah, so when I criticized Gothard to my mom as someone who had never been married, and what were his qualifications to dispense marital advice, she said "well, the Apostle Paul was never married either and we listen to his advice" although the majority of theologians believe he was or had been married at some time.
love your posts! we need more!
IBLP is slated to make a new release of "The Gladiator".
Instead of standing up to the Emperor and refusing to shake his hand at the beginning of the movie, Maximus Decimus Meridius recognizes the importance of designated authorities and assumes that "the gods" had a reason for the death of Caeser and that all things work out for good for those who say their prayers and burn incense.
The movie follows his journies as he becomes brainwashed to the immorality of Commodus and never lives up to his true fate and full potential that Caeser and "the gods" had originally intended for him.
If only he hadn't shown his authorities proper respect...
Wow got a life man? way to try to slam a Ministry that will outlive you... Keep blogging though! ;)
Outlive him? Ha! Wait until Gothard dies, he should be close to 70 now. Everything will crumble.... It has been on the downward spiral for quite some time. Oh, and you used the word "ministry" where you should have used "cult". You must never have been involved...
On a different note...whatever happened to the law school? Has it been shut down?
Great blog. I must confess that I had no idea who BG was, and had never heard of ATI until I started watching the Duggar family on TV. I'm just amazed that there are so many followers of this kind of religious patriarchy. As former members, do any of think there's hope for the Duggar girls?
On an unrelated note, I'm still confused about the whole courtship thing. What exactly does courtship involve? Are the courters ever allowed to be alone together or have a private conversation? I can't imagine marrying someone under these circumstances.
And this is what happens when people treat Bill Gothard like a god, not a person offering his opinions. All of you have and had a choice to make. Go blame yourselves.
"Wow got a life man? way to try to slam a Ministry that will outlive you... Keep blogging though! ;)"
Really? I'm pretty sure Islam and Mormonism will outlive you too bigmouth.
Ironic how they tell fool's not to talk and force-feed Proverbs to the youth everyday. In ATI, fool's are allowed to talk all the time.
I used to like Bill a lot, hung on his every word, but now it seems like some of the stuff he's saying is just weird.
BG disgusts me in every way. He is an egotistical shame to the name of Christ. It is my observation that he is mentally disturbed and had control issues that cause him to try and control other peoples' lives and EVERY aspect of their lives. Last time I read my Bible I saw that we have FREEDOM in Christ, not rules and legalistic oppression.
I feel for you! I have been involved with Basic principles for many years. I have personally used what I learned. To date I can see that over 200 families have been helped just from my ministry to them. Since when is the scriptures a "cult"? Maybe you should consider John 3:16.
Whoa Terry, apparently you don't read much better than you think---no one called scriptures a "cult"---they call Gothard a "cult". Proper use of scripture IS the cure for the gothard way of scripture twisting. XATI guy--we need more! Thanx
Please keep writing!! I'm in college now after having spent my entire childhood in ATI and I have a hard time explaining to other people just how involved an organization could be in my life.
Dear Terry, I would encourage you to please do much research on your own about the criterion for a cult, and also please look up material on spiritual abuse. If you allow your mind to really study and your spirit to understand, you might find yourself enlightened also.
On another note,
Bill Gothards teachings on marriage and authority led me straight into an abusive marriage. I'll spare you the details. But thank goodness I was able to find my way out of it. However, it has set me and my children back. Thank God for leading me away from this group!
There are many criteria that define a cult, not just one criterion.
