Sketchy Character?
For years, families have enjoyed the captivating "read-aloud" nature stories in Character Sketches, Vol. I -III, and have eagerly awaited the often-promised Volume 4.

Just today a group of current and former ATI families filed a class action lawsuit against IBLP for failing to write the remaining volumes of the series.

"How will we illustrate the rest of the character qualities to our children if the Institute never gets around to writing about them?" asked an ATI parent. "We just want Mr. Gothard to deliver what he's promised."

A spokesman for IBLP said he had not reviewed the lawsuit, but called the action "baseless and irreverent."

"We are engaged in serving the Lord every day," he said. "To suggest that we've defrauded families in ATI is very disrespectful. Besides, it's Larry Guthrie's fault the other Character Sketches never got written."

funny how a charcoal picture, a "correlating" bible story and a few facts from the back of an animal flashcard can qualify as a superior scientific education.

i always wondered what in the world the body of a chopped-up concubine had anything to do with a wood duck, or whatever it was.
but then, my ability to see analogies everywhere to back up my own theories of life, well, i've let that lapse... how slothful of me!

If this is the extent of some families' homeschool curriculum, then the State of California is right to intervene as is now happening.

Hahaha. Wow.

A class action suit? So all the other organizations out there like ATI won't be able to promise books and then not deliver? Yeah. That's relevant. I can think of several things about ATI right off the top of my head that could warrant a class action suit... and the absence of Vol. IV of Character Sketches isn't one of em. : b

Then there's the whole "don't take your brother to a court of law" thing...

I noticed my rant from two weeks ago didn't get posted. Why is that?

This reminds me that just the other night I had a dream about this!

In my dream I was visiting a friend who nodded over to CS volume IV, which they had just received in the mail. I don't think it was something they had ordered. ;P

Lol, my parents (avid ati-ers) had a LEATHER bound series of the Character Quality Animal books (sorry, I can't remember right off the actual title.) Anyways, they were like an Indiana Jones artifact...nobody, but nobody, was allowed to touch them except the parents. You guys are right: the pictures sucked, but I'd take them over the wisdom books any day. Yeesh. Nothing like getting out of bed butt early in the morning to read five pages small script about some upstanding Christian dude who is LONG dead and probably looking down on you from heaven pitying your poor butt for having to read his bland and very yawnsome biography.
