Character Inn to be sold?
News stories here and here.

Apparently hotels with character standards are not profitable.

Its about time they closed down / sell the money pit. Really I dont know if it ever has been profitable! I think Ken and Chuck will find another avenue. In fact I'm sure of it. Maybe the next place for them to conquer is HQ or INDY.

so does this mean I won't be able to go to Flint under the guise of a Godly program and cause mayhem?

did they really think that having a picutre of a FEMALE EXEC with DYED BLONDE HAIR and a cell phone would sell this silly idea to traveling business types? i'd love to see such a woman walk through the door only to be greeted with "ma'am, we are certainly grateful for your patronage of our facility. in the interest of continuity and company policy, we invite you to visit our beauty salon. your appointment is at 7."

Did you notice the size of that cell phone? It's as big as your foot.

"Keeping the facility running costs about $500,000 annually - on top of more than $2 million that's been spent on improvements, according to Gothard." Geez...didn't somebody at HQ make a cash flow projection BEFORE they bought the building?

I thought we were required to have soft blonde curls, real or not.

Well, when it sells, the deed will be restricted, right? A la the Financial Freedom Seminar testimonies... Let's hope this hotel property will never again be exposed to alcohol, cigarette smoke, television, rock music, or sex. :)

It's already been exposed to sex. (sorry Bill, I guess you can blame the lack of God's monetary blessing on me.) It has a lot of great memories though! My fiance and I will be stopping by there during our honeymoon.

I wonder how in the world they're going to sell the thing with the mold. If it won't pass a building inspection, who will buy it?

Funny how they forgot to mention on their website that visitors to the Character Inn will enjoy a melodious, clean, uplifting and "healthy" atmosphere--albeit the mold spores permeating the atmosphere. Geez

if you have sex at the character inn, do you automatically get "blessed" with conception?

it is definitely been used for sex, that's for sure. a few people who have arrived as virgins, didn't leave as ones... :-P

And $2million in repairs??! I would like to see where that has went, lol. I certainly never saw $2mil in renovations. Especially not on staff floors...

As a Flint resident, I've got to thank IBLP for buying the building, renovating and occupying it after it had been sitting idle for a long time. It's been an important part of the renovation of our downtown.

THANK GOD for a change!!! I have purposely held bitterness in my heart since they've moved into the old Raddison. Now I can let it go, and ring the freedom bells!!! I know that they paid $6.5 mil IN CASH ("The institute bought the hotel five years ago for a reported $6.5 million..." http://www.mlive.com/news/fljournal/index.ssf?/base/news-33/1132158073108550.xml&coll=5 )
~IN FRIGGIN CASH!!!!! That's just ridiculous. You would think that they would be more LOVING to the world, and give that money to people who really NEED money, like Haiti, Ethiopia, etc. There's no reason for that kind of wastefulness.
I knew, knew, KNEW that there was NO way in heck that they'd move into Flint, and try to "change it for God". Flint doesn't want people like that in it's city. We Flintonians want reality, and reality isn't living in a luxurious hotel every day of your life, walking around with a fake "God Glow" around your face, making sure your skirt is hiding your body and draping over your feet, and that your hair wasn't too long or too short to become an "eye-trap". No, reality for us is trying to find decent work that isn't STRIPPING, paying off medical bills, making sure our cars don't get lifted or broken into, making sure that we even have a place to LIVE. We can't live in a man-made uptopia, because it's just that-MAN-MADE. Flint is the world that I live in, and that's GOD-MADE. It's real dirt, real grass, real stench, real poverty, real neediness, and real people. So, I don't understand Mr. "Godfather"- why not take that 6.5 mil that you used to buy some building, and put it to REAL use for the town of Flint. Clean up some parks, make it safer, cleaner. Buy some cheap houses, fix them up and give them to people who don't have homes-people who need homes and are trying to make it, but just can seep to get out of the Flint Cycle.
Re-birth the Art & Cultural centers. Give celebs more than just Michael Moore to visit Flint.
That's what real community is about, and that's what helping Flint out would be like if someone rich like you were truly of Jesus' heart, and truly passionate about making a difference FOR the people.

That's why Mr. Godfather failed in Flint. We see WAY beyond the facade and BS.
